Main Bonnaroo entrance

Happy Bonnaroo!

In June, I went to Bonnaroo, a music and arts festival held annually on a farm in Manchester, TN. The lineup included:

  • Metallica
  • Pearl Jam
  • Chris Rock
  • B.B. King
  • Les Claypool
  • Willie Nelson
  • Phil Lesh
  • The main festival area, where all the bands, comedians and artists perform, is called Centeroo. It looks measly on the map compared to the camping areas. You'll find vendors selling jewelry, shish kabobs, clothes, drums, posters, ice cream and everything else you can think of. There's also an awesome ferris wheel (which I didn't go on because it's too expensive), dance clubs and ample hang-out space, plus art, comedy shows and, of course, a lot of music.

I should also mention that there are drugs -- lots of 'em -- at the festival, but it's not overwhelming. Several people stopped by our tent every day selling things I'd never heard of, but we just said, "No, thanks" and off they went. The one blatantly high man I came across walked through the crowds proclaiming that the misting tents sprayed acid instead of water. Entertaining, to be sure, but not threatening.
