Meredith Rutland's Academics

Graduation ceremony

School was like a little puppy in my early years: playful and enthusiastic. Then as it grew, it steadily became heavier and heavier, its bark grew deeper and it had little regard for my sleeping habits. Today, I've learnt to tame the canine of academics.

I graduated from high school in the Spring of 2009. I am a freshman at the University of Florida in the College of Journalism and Communications. I plan to major in journalism, perhaps with a science-writing concentration, and minor in English. I worked for four publications in my first semester, and I am continuing to freelance in my second semester.

Last spring and summer, I worked for The Miami Herald Neighbors Section, starting as a fact-checking, blurb-writing freelancer. My editor was gracious enough to give me a chance to write an article last February. From then on, I wrote many human-interest stories.
