Drawing and Photography

One of my hobbies would be drawing and painting. In high school I took a lot of art classes and even entered a couple of art contests. Since coming to college I haven't had too much time to focus on art, but I definitely use art as a stress relief when my schedule gets too hectic. Another hobby I have taken up is photography. I am currently in a photojournalism class, and I absolutely love it. It is interesting to try to tell a story through a photograph since I normally use words to convey a story.

I get inspiration for my art and photography from every day events. I try to walk a different way home than I normally do or explore places that I pass by every day but don't pay much attention to. Another place I get inspiration from is the blog PostSecret. It is filled with postcards with people's secrets written on them.

Community Service

I am very active in my community, and I love to help people. I have participated in various community service projects throughout my four years in Gainesville. I like to volunteer at the St. Francis House. I normally help make the food and then serve it. It is rewarding to see how grateful people are when you serve the meal to them. As I get older I want to continue to volunteer and make it a priority in my life. I think it is important to give back to the community and be thankful for what you have.

Habitat For Humanity

One of my favorite organizations is Habitat for Humanity. I may not be the most qualified person to build houses, but with some instruction, I am still able to help out. I remember the first time I volunteered with the organization I was put in charge of cutting pieces of wood with an electric saw! I also like how the family we are building the house for are able to come out and participate. It was nice to talk to them and actually see who we were helping.
