In the summer of 2007, I embarked on a three-month long study abroad in Beijing, China. There, I studied intermediate Chinese language and modern Chinese poetry and literature at the prestigious Qinghua University. The bulk of my time in China was spent travelling across the northeast portion of the country. Based in Beijing, I would spend every other weekend in a different city. Over three months, I traveled to: Shanhaiguan, Shanghai, Qingdao, Xi'an, Houhot in Inner Mongolia and lastly Dandong on the North Korean border. Between Europe and China, I'd have to say that I liked China more because of how exotic and mysterious the country was to me before and while I was there. Not to mention that I was stared at and everyone thought I was German.
