As a member of the Fitness Express program, you will participate in our structured program that has both physiological and psychological benefits.
Shands Fitness Express program is structered in a circuit training format with 10 participants per class time. All participants will be instructed how to use strength training equipment, dumbbells, physioballs, therabands, and cardiovascular equipment (treadmill or bicycle). Typically 20 minutes will be spent on cardiovascular exercises and 20 minutes on strength training.
Although the intent is for participants to push themselves only as hard as they feel comfortable, all participants are screened via a self reported Par-Q survey. This survey allows us to screen all participants prior to beginning this program, to determine if there is any associated risk in initiating a formal exercise program. Additionally, the following subjective and objective measures are performed prior and during the Fitness Express program:
