My Bio

Hi, I'm Michael. I am currently a Journalism Senior at the University of Florida. I've been working at the Gainesville Sun for the past year covering Student Government on campus. I haven't quite pinpointed where I'm going to take my life in terms of a career path, but I do know that whatever I end up doing, I want it to be bigger than myself. I want to use everything I have to offer to contribute to the world in some way.

Anyway, let me reign in the existensialism a little here. I grew up in a lot of different places because both my parents were in the U.S. Air Force. I was born in Weisbaden, Germany, went to preschool in Columbus, NE, kindergarten in Guilford, CT, elementary in Warner Robbins, Ga... You get the idea. I have a younger brother, Zac, who is a freshman at the University of South Carolina at Aiken this year. We've been best friends for as long as I can remember. Sure, we have our typical "brotherly" moments, but it's great to have that kind of relationship with my brother. I'm also engaged to a wonderful girl named Elizabeth. She's amazing. She brightens my every day without fail. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her.

My family and I attend Central Christian Church, a non-denominatinal Christian church in Ocala, FL. I would say God plays a big role in my life and I thank him every day for all the blessings he has given me. I have a really tight-nit, French-Italian family (mostly on my mom's side) that lives primarily in New England. Every other year we all vacation together. The last trip was to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We liked it so much we're going back this year!

As far as my interests go, I've recently discovered the technical art that is Web Design. At first, I was just taking the class for elective credits, but I got hooked after the first week of class. Now I'm seriously considering learning as much about web design and development as I can while I'm in school so that I can eventually get a job as a web designer. I also really enjoy writing. That's why I chose journalism in the first place. So if it doesn't work out in web design I know what I will fall back on. As a hobby, I love to play the guitar. I hope to start a band someday, but who knows when I'll have time for that.
