The most widely grown apple variety in the U.S., heart-shaped Red Delicious apples are known for their bright red and speckled skins, along with their crunchy and mildly-sweet flavors. Names used to describe it include "classic" and "America's perfect snacking apple." The Red Delicious is also the stereotypical apple pictured in many stories, novels and fables that symbolize corruption (Adam and Eve; Snow White) or a beautiful but deadly "reward" (Greek myths of Atalanta and the Golden Apple).
