How many people can say they've written a speech that was read in open session on the floor of United States House of Representatives?

I can.

During the summer of 2002 I worked as an intern for Congresswoman Karen Thurman in her Washington, DC office. Working on Capitol Hill allowed me the opportunity to see first-hand how our government works, and more often than not, doesn't work. While working in the office I prepared press releases, assisted in media relations, responded to constituent correspondence and requests, speech writing, researched legislation and even played on the "Swinging Chads" softball team.

Working in Washington was by far one of the most profound experiences of my life, both personally and professionally. With this homepage, I hope to share some of the highlights from my Washington experience and help others learn how they too may find their own internship opportunities.
