A Concise Site Dedicated to Four of the Most Influential Poets of the 20th Century
The Gifts of Man
Welcome to a site dedicated to four men who changed how poetry was written and understood.
Each a giant figure in the canon of classic English literature, the four poets included in this site, Thomas Stern Eliot, William Butler Yeats, Edward Estlin Cummings, and David Herbert Lawrence, contributed to the changing nature of poetry through rich and distincitve writing styles.Although some of the power of the poems can be found in the new ways that the rhyme structure were arranged, or even how the words themselves were presented on a page, the beauty of poetry has always been based on its ability to scrutinize the finest details of the human condition.
The selection of poems on this site are proof that words indeed are authentic representations of the sublime moments that every individual experiences in the course of a lifetime. Themes of love, nature, and spirituality, among a list of others, abound in the poems presented here.
Although I do the poets an injustice in selecting only a couple poems from each, I hope they will spark further interest in the poetry of these men.
