Throughout the past two decades, the sports industry has evolved into a dynamic entity. Its boundaries have expanded, producing greater opportunity than ever before for careers in sports markets. Leagues, franchises, and sports have continued to grow. Therefore, the demand for specialized education in sports has become mandatory.
The University of Florida has fulfilled the demand. In 1999, a sports communication program was introduced to the highly regarded College of Journalism and Communication. This track is a unique attempt to prepare students for careers within sports markets, following public relations and other communication career paths.
More than education is needed, however. Students must round themselves in as many capacities as possible. Included in this website are various activities in which I participated. My experiences range from the NHL to community relations activities within the United Way. Each lent a unique sense of accomplishment and an individualized skill upon which a portfolio could be constructed.
