As editor, responsible for story selection, copywriting and layout of monthly newsletter focusing on media law issues for the state of Florida. Experienced in legal research, including on-line computer assisted research, drafting and writing legal documents.

Writer's Ink, October 1998-Present, Principal/owner -

Full-service agency specializing in newsletters, script writing, working with non-profit organizations and public relations activities. Clients include: Jacksonville Port Authority, PineRidge Productions, Florida Power & Light.

Managed overall production of 10 and 11p.m. newscasts. Responsibilities included extensive writing; determination of which stories to run and order of importance; coordination of duties for reporters, photographers, anchors and technical crew; timing the show and filing daily performance reports to News Director. Producer of weekly Healthwatch segments.

Hawaiian Electric Company, May 1991 to January 1997, Corporate Communications -

Handled local news media and public relations issues as company spokesperson through high profile and day-to-day power outages, accidents, emergencies, system additions and rate cases. Provided internal counsel to CEO and corporate VPs, developed 'talking points' and coached upper management on delivery for both internal and external customers. Produced and wrote corporate videos. Played key role on crisis communications management team. Provided quarterly updates to corporate disaster plan which was implemented successfully following the devastation of hurricane Iniki in 1991 and a major oil spill in 1996 at the Waiau power plant. Determined advertising budget and its expenditure. Oversaw development of advertising plan including copywriting and production of print, radio and television ads. Responsible for all media buys and placement. Made numerous public appearances and assisted in planning of company sponsored community events.

Professional Communications, (ProComm) October 1990 to May 1991 Assistant Account Executive -

Responsibilities included overseeing a broad spectrum of clients ranging from sports to fine arts to construction and utility. Oversaw campaign for the Kodak Hula Bowl, including marketing and media development, placement of print and broadcast advertising, and coordination of press box on game day.

KHVH NewsRadio 99, Oct. 1987 to Oct. 1990, Promotions Director / Reporter -

Responsibilities included news reporting, development and management of station promotions, trafficking on-air logs, writing ad copy, and other duties as required.

EDUCATION

University of Florida, Jan. 2000-present -

- Currently enrolled in the graduate studies program in the College of Journalism and Communications. Pursuing a masters and Ph.D in mass media law. Areas of research include: privacy, public relations and regulatory communications requirements. Anticipated graduation: Spring 2004.

University of Hawai'i at Manoa -

Graduated with a BA, majoring in Journalism, with minors in Political Science and Sociology. While attending UH, completed Legislative Internship at State Capitol, served as a Senator for the ASUH Student Government and served for two years on the UH Campus Center Board.
