Journalism is about quickly getting important information to the public, but it's also about presenting interesting and well-written stories for readers' entertainment.
Through my classes and internships, I've experienced writing longer feature stories that spotlight trends and unusual people.

For Florida Online, a blog for the University of Florida's fundraising branch, I regularly write profiles and updates on UF alumni.
Below is the link to an article I wrote on Kevin Malone, a UF graduate who works as an international lawyer when he's not traveling the world hunting and giving time to conservation projects.http://magazine.ufl.edu/2012/02/global-gator/
For Mapanare.us, an entertainment blog based in Chicago, I regularly interview and write articles on artists who are legendary and breaking out.
My subjects have included Marky Ramone, former drummer of the seminal punk band the Ramones; Steve Sparrow, lead singer of the Britpop act Morning Parade; and Steve Barton, a singer-songwriter and frontman for new wave band Translator.
The link below will take you to a recent article I wrote on The Bolts, an emerging California pop rock band.http://www.mapanare.us/5/post/2012/06/the-bolts-releasing-two-eps-fall-winter-in-the-next-year-may-be-a-band-on-the-rise.html
Writing an entertaining article on current trends and news brings information to your audience in an creative fashion.
I wrote a news feature article for 904, a business magazine based in Jacksonville, Fla., on former athletes transitioning to retirement life. I researched statistics on retired athletes and interviewed several athletes in the area.

For The Independent Florida Alligator, I covered a game played at UF every semester. My article on Humans vs. Zombies — an apocalyptic horror-themed twist on tag — made the front page.

For one of the more emotional articles I've written, I interviewed a South Florida woman about a cancer walk she did with her UF Gator family and her father soon before he died.

I generated this blog post for the Jacksonville Business Journal from a change of command ceremony I attended.
I went to get background on the incoming commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Jacksonville District, who I was to profile later that month.
The ceremony was filled with much more emotion than I anticipated because the outgoing commander was deploying to Afghanistan.
I interviewed both commanders and an official, took detailed notes and snapped photos before returning to the office to write the post.
