Music is, without a doubt, the biggest hobby of mine. As long as I'm awake and not studying, I would have my music on. If you see me walking or waiting for a bus, nine times out of ten, I would be wearing my headset. I'm not a fan of a specific type of music. Any genre that sounds good works for me, rock, blues, Brit-pop, so on and so forth. My favorite musicians and bands come and go, because my taste of music changes constantly. I could be listening to Metallica one hour ago, and switch to Bruno Mars right away.
However, there are some musicians and bands that have always been in my MP3 player forever:
- David Bowie--Roughly 10 years ago, this guy got my attention with his China Girl. Since then, I started collecting his albums, EPs and videos. I know there's a lot, but I just couldn't resist them.
- The Killers--My friend let me listen to their songs, but I didn't like the band at first. Then I watched one of their concerts online, I was truly amazed and entertained, and they just became my favorite band.
- Blur--They were truly inspirational. Also the reason why I wanted to have a band.
I started my band when I was a freshman in college. I was the lead singer and song writer. We started off covering Blur and Oasis's songs, so the band had a rather solid root in Brit-pop from the 90s. After covering some of our favorite bands' work, we began writing and performing our own songs. The later-joined violin player brought a distinctive sound to the band. For the next few years, we did many small and medium shows in Beijing and a couple of provincial cities.
