Ski Lift
My brother Erik, my dad, and I on a chairlift above Heavenly Ski Resort, Lake Tahoe, Nev.

One of the most beautiful places in the world, in my opinion, is not in another country, across an ocean, or on another continent. It is located on the other side of the United States, in Nevada, of all places.

Mom and I
My mom and I in Lake Tahoe, circa 2004.

Lake Tahoe is a ski resort and town in the Sierra Mountain region. Rustic and stunningly beautiful, Lake Tahoe was the first place I have ever skied and the first place I have been to that has ever truly taken my breath away.

My first trip to Tahoe was in the spring of 2004 when I was 13. I went with my parents and my 9-year-old brother. We met up with my Aunt, Uncle, and cousins Ricky and Michael at their second home in the area.

My family and I skied at Heavenly Ski Resort, a mountain resort that has a special place in my life. I rode my first chair lift, which was a bit of a scary experience for me.

The best part of the trip was the ski lessons - being one of the clumsiest people on land, this was rather difficult - but the challenge was thrilling. I loved being able to tell the other kids in the class that I was from Florida, because they were so surprised at my ability to ski. I was rather surprised too.
