Produce content for the WUFT News website. Research information for stories, interview informants, and write and edit stories. Assign metatags to stories to increase page hits. Take stories for radio broadcast and rewrite them for the Web.

Community news intern, The Palm Beach Post

West Palm Beach, Fla. [May-Aug. 2012]

Worked as full-time reporter. Interviewed informants, researched, edited and entered data to use for news articles. Wrote more than 60 published news and feature articles, including two investigative 1A articles. Stories varied in length, deadline and subject. Had to learn how to adapt to different editing and writing styles.

Student assistant, Smathers Library at UF

Gainesville, Fla. [Aug. 2010-May 2012]

Performed image correction and carried out quality control of digital newspaper pages using Adobe Photoshop for at least 15 hours per week. Archived hundreds of newspapers for the Florida Digital Library.

Worked as full-time reporter during the summer. Helped plan the newspaper’s first bridal show. Wrote wedding-related stories to increase the publicity for the bridal show. Worked as a Gainesville correspondent during fall 2010. Wrote three published stories during this period.

Oversee the Special Events committee, which includes 22 individuals, in the planning, organization, promotion and production of free events in the Reitz Student Union for the UF student body and the Gainesville community. Manage a budget of $21,000 per year. Elected to position by outgoing 12-person board of directors.

Volunteer, Alachua County School Board

Gainesville, Fla. [September 2012-present]

Assist in a kindergarten classroom for three hour a week. Help students with reading and writing assignments. Work with students one-on-one and in small groups to complete tasks. Help ensure that students are on task and behaving well.

Group Leader, FAU Everglades Youth Conservation Camp

West Palm Beach, Fla. [June-Aug. 2011]

Supervised children ages 10 to 14 while living in the Florida Everglades for eight weeks. Instructed them in lessons about Florida ecosystems, wildlife and safety. Voted Group Leader of the Year.

Met with a second-grade student weekly to help with homework and social problems. Identified areas of improvement, developed goals with the student and created activities to help the student reach his goals.

Organized weekly meetings and volunteer activities for 14 students, who ranged in age from 11 to 18. Created 5K run/walk that raised more than $1,000 for The Caring Kitchen, a soup kitchen in Delray Beach, Fla. Attended a four-day Global Youth Forum about sustainability in Washington, D.C. Led group discussions about reducing individuals’ global footprints.
