The Life and Times of Emily Brown

About Me

Emily Brown

Growing up with the name Emily Brown, a combination of the more popular of first and surnames, meant that I had to find added personality to be remembered. I ended up a little loud and talkative, but it seems to have mostly worked.

I have a fabulous family and enjoy spending time with them as often as possible. In particular we're board game aficionados (much to my father's dismay, I'm on a mean 'Settlers of Catan' winning streak) and enjoy putting together challenging puzzles.

Fun Fact!: My go to karaoke song is "I'm on a Boat" by The Lonely Island.

Despite my less than coordinated disposition, I stay active by hiking, cycling, and jogging. My vices include wine, terrible television, baking and, like any good woman, my cat.

Education and Work

I have my bachelor’s degree in Film and Video production from Columbia College Chicago, which is the largest film school in the United States. I was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida and currently, despite my staunch upbringing as a Florida State Seminole, I am working on a master's degree in telecommunications from the University of Florida. This is the most egregious form of rebellion I could muster. I hope to pursue a career in either audience analysis or communications policy development. I have particular interest in fair spectrum use.

In addition, I work at the Reitz Union as a graduate assistant, mostly working with the best student employees an organization could possibly ask for. For more information, please see my resume.

My Cat

Fun Fact!: I make the best popcorn ever. Breezy says so.

Breezy is the most dog-like cat you'll ever meet: she plays fetch, chases her tail and meows when someone knocks on the door. She also has a penchant for chewing on shoes and loves nothing more than giving you a kiss when you walk in the door. Her favorite food is spinach and more than once she's been caught dragging around a bag of Goldfish crackers.

She was rescued from a fabulous organization, Gainesville Pet Rescue. Frighteningly, she is probably the most important thing in my life.
