Like most Chicanas I know, I come from a big family. Big, loud, opinionated, but full of love and unconditional support. My immediate family consists of my father, Luis, my mother, Anna, and my younger sister, Jessica.
They have always been there for me and I love them with all my heart. In addition, other important people in my life include my grandmother, Ninfa and my aunts, uncles and cousins
My family spans across the entire United States, however most of my family is in the southwest and, specifically, Texas. My great-grandfather, Gavino Ramos crossed the border in the early 1900s. He was an orphan and was the last survivor of his family after the Revolution. He survived by working as a farm hand at different farms along the Texan-Mexican border. One of the farmers was Mr. Salinas. The Salina family had a beautiful family of strong boys and one daughter, Dolores. Gavino and Dolores fell in love and the rest is history.
I came along in 1982, a proud third generation American of Mexican heritage.
