The city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is amazing. It is similar to New York City in means of the traffic, number of people, and the big city atmosphere as a whole. Rio is a giant melting pot of nationalities with German, Italian, Asian, and Native Indians making up the almost 8 million people living in the city. However, the beaches in Rio are like none in the U.S.A. This is a picture of Copacabana Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world. We spent many sunny days there. It was really cool how there were guys on the beach selling beer, ice cream, tea, soda, chips, and even fresh fish. There were also kiosks every 50 or 75 feet or so along the beach front that sold hamburgers, hotdogs, mixed drinks, candy, and of course coconut water. This is how all beaches should be.
The World Cup of Soccer was going on while we were in Brazil and everyone was going crazy. Brazil won the World Cup for an unprecedented fifth time, more than any other team in history. For this everyone received a day off work the week after the game when the team returned to the country. I had never seen anything like it. Entire streets were closed off downtown for the celebration. One thing is for sure, Brazilians know how to have a good time !!!
