The Northern Ohio Baseball Club was founded in 1998 by Don Mills. The team began play in the Great Lakes Summer League in 1999, and, in just its second year in the league, won the first of three straight league championships in 2000. The Club had a record of 42-9 that year, and was named "The Best Team in Summer Baseball" by Baseball America.
The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League is one of nine NCAA sanctioned summer leagues designed to provide top collegiate prospects with remaining eligibility a chance to showcase their skills during the summer. "The Lakes" is a wooden bat league sponsored in part by Major League Baseball and regularly scouted by professional baseball organizations.
