Carefree Childhood

Santandercito I was born in Bogotá, Colombia on September 23, 1980. I had a wonderful childhood. I attended Abraham Lincoln School and spent weekends at my uncle's finca, horseback riding and swimming in the lake. I wrote my first fiction story with the help of my grandfather, who dabbles in writing, photography and politics. It was about a government of rhinos. I was political even at such a young age.

(The picture above is of my vacation house in Colombia. It's located in small town called Santandercito and has a breathtaking view of the mountains)

Coming to America

My family moved here when I was 11-years-old and I started 5th grade at Griffin Elementary School in Cooper City, Florida. It was a hard transition but I managed it with a little help from my friends. My hobbies were dancing, reading, writing and bike-riding... just the typical pre-teen stuff. I went to Cooper City High School and graduated c/o 1999 with honors and a 4.25 GPA. Not bad for a little girl from South America!

The Right Choice

University of Florida I decided to study journalism because I have always loved to write and I figured I could make a living as a journalist while I made a name for myself as a fiction writer. Little did I know I would end up loving journalism. Writing and reporting about real-life thrill me. I admire Truman Capote, Hunter S. Thompson and Nora Ephron. Maybe, if I'm lucky, one day my writing will be as good as theirs.

(I wanted to attend the University of Florida because it's the number one school in the state. Click on the icon to go to the UF web site)

Great Things to Come

porche 944 My future plans are to work for a magazine. I want to be a staff writer and maybe one day become fashion editor for Vogue, Glamour or Elle. I also plan to one day live in San Fransisco.

(The picture is my sweet, sweet ride Legend. It is a Porsche 944 that I inherited from my brother.)
