HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS:
Movies, Books, and Music.

MOVIES:
These would be my all-time, top five, feel-good movie picks-- listed in no particular order. A few of the reasons I like each movie are listed after each title.
    Princess Bride DVD
  • The Princess Bride
Are you kidding me? It's got fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...in other words, this one just rocks.
    High Fidelity DVD
  • High Fidelity
First of all, John Cusak is a good actor; secondly, there's some great music in this flick; and finally, I loved the book too.
    Fight Club DVD
  • Fight Club
The whole concept was amazing, not to mention the creative camera angles, clever scripting and sensational acting.
    Reality Bites VHS
  • Reality Bites
It's an early nineties classic that presents a twisted and bitter, but ultimately happy love story. What more could you ask?
    Empire Records VHS
  • Empire Records
Along the same lines as High Fidelity, but a bit dorkier. What can I say in my defense? I did once work at a record store, hmm...
Honorable Mentions: Braveheart, The Gladiator, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Amadeus, and many, MANY more!

BOOKS:
These are some of the best books I've read. They make me come back time and time again, but never loose their ability to capture my attention and imagination.
    "Lolita" novel
  • Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
Risque, enthralling and beautifully writen. This book could give anyone a passion for the written word.
    "The Liar's Club" novel
  • The Liar's Club by Mary Karr
This is a poigniant look at a shattered childhood that nonetheless provided happiness and produced an award-winning author.
    "The Blind Assassin" novel
  • The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood
All of her books are riveting, but this one combines elements of mystery, science fiction, history and biography, making it one of Atwood's best.
"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" classic novel
  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
This is the first chapter book I ever read, and it's still just as great. If I do ever write children's books, I can only hope to compare.
    Bram Stoker's "Dracula"
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
A scary, well-crafted classic that always has me hooked. It's dark tone makes it an especially good read around Halloween.
Honorable Mentions: Anything by Margaret Atwood, William Golman's The Princess Bride, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Nick Hornby's High Fidelity among many others.

MUSIC:
These are some of the tunes that get me happy in no time! I've listed the artists, but included some album recommendations as well.
    Siamese Dream album
  • The Smashing Pumpkins
They may be left over from the grunge era, and officially broken up, but the Pumpkins are still tops with me. Check my fave albums by them: Siamese Dream and Adore.
    Hippo's "Heads are Gonna Roll"
  • The Hippos
These guys mix elements of old-school punk with new wave for a unique sound. Heads Are Gonna Roll is one of their best, also watch for a new release soon.
    Incubus "Make Yourself"
  • Incubus
These guys are finally getting the recognition they deserve! Check out Make Yourself and their new release, Morning View, for great vocals and instrumentals.
    Tori Amos album
  • Tori Amos
Though I've never managed to see her live, Tori's soulful music has always been special to me. Little Earthquakes is my fave by her.
    The Impossibles album
  • The Impossibles
Quirky, upbeat, but also Emo, these guys are my Gainesville fave. Check them out when they play live at Fueled By Ramen sponsored concerts.
I love music, and my tastes are constantly changing. Right now I catch most of my music by listening to Orlando's O-Rock 105.9 radio station, or downloading new mp3's online.
