The 2000 Season
Florida started the season bearly in the top ten team in the nation, but with a win over rival Tennessee they moved up quickly. At 4-0 and ranked #3 in the country the Gators traveled to Starkville Mississippi to play the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Mississippi State upset the Gators by a score of 47-35. Florida won its next five games before being upended by Florida State 30-7.
One of the bright spots in the 2000 season was the chance for Florida to play for another SEC Championship in the Spurrier era. Florida beat Auburn for the second time in the season to seal another Southeastern Conference Title for the "Mighty" Gators. The Gators then went on the play the Miami Hurricanes in New Orleans, where they were beaten 37-27.
