The 1993 Season
In 1993 the Gators were hungry for another SEC Championship Title, and they looked to be well on their way after wining the first five games, but a tough Auburn team was next on the schedule. The Gators traveled out to the plains of Auburn, Alabama, and were beaten in a close game 38-35. Florida got back on track with a thrilling win over Georgia and then went on to win its next three games before facing Florida State. When the Seminole came to Gainesville, led by Heisman quarterback Charlie Wardthey were ranked first in the nation. Despite this ranking Florida, who was ranked seventh at the time, played FSU down to the wire. The Seminoles sealed the game with a controversial, Charlie Ward to Warrick Dunn, final score.
Florida went on to win the SEC Championship Game by defeating Alabama 28-13 in Birmingham. This was only Florida's second SEC Title in the history of the school. The Gators then went on to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans where they beat third ranked West Virginia University by a score of 41-7.
