The Godfather

Contempt Stealing Beauty go back home

Francis Ford Coppola wrote and directed this version of the Mario Puzo novel. The ensemble cast of actors includes Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duval, and Diane Keaton. This well-known story focuses on the power struggle of an Italian mafia family, as well as with the emotional tensions present between the characters. The Godfather, from 1972, has stood the test of time. It's legacy has led to a trilogy and a significant cult following.

The section of the film set in Sicily involves Michael Corleone'e exile and first marriage. The village of Corleone was too developed at the time of production, so the town of Savoca, outside Taormina in the province of Messina, substituted. The church where Michael's wedding took place and Bar Vitelli can still be visited today.
