Shortly before final plans for the evening broadcast are finalized, the assignments manager will meet with the executive and show producers to perform what's called "splits". At this meeting the decisions are made as to which news broadcast will get which stories and in which forms. This meeting is usally held prior to the time that the anchors arrive for work.
In an effort to provide checks and balances, the news anchors are usually one of the last people to view scripts before the nightly broadcast. It is their responsibility to check stories for content accuracy, grammar and continuity.
When the rundown and scripts are finally approved, they are prepared for air. Production personnel are responsbile for collating the scripts and disributing them to directors, producers and anchors.
