Let's go surfin!
Surfin' Safaris (Site Analyses):
Among the most interesting parts of the course are the analyses you will do of different types of Web sites over the course of the semester. These analyses are designed to foster discussion and to get you to look thoroughly, carefully and critically at various kinds of Web sites to help you analyze and understand the factors involved in creating superior ones.
You will be asked to analyze, compare and contrast at least two sites offered by major newspapers, magazines, television networks or large corporations and discuss design, content, interactivity, usability, purpose and other factors that make you like or dislike the various sites. These analyses (800 words or less) will be shared with the entire class, and everyone will be asked to comment on them as part of the grading process.
In lab, we will discuss other Web sites. Each student will have at least one opportunity during the semester to show a Web site to classmates and discuss it.
The schedule of due dates for each student's safaris will be posted during the second or third week of classes.
