Biography

Rex Grossman was born on August 23, 1980 in Bloomington, Indiana to
Daniel and Maureen Grossman. He attended Bloomington South High
School and led them to the '98 State 5A title. Rex originally wasn't even
recruited by UF. The Gators usually don't do much recruiting out in the
Midwest and stay mostly in the South.

However, Rex did have his eye on UF even if its eye wasn't on him. Rex
actually had to recruit Florida by sending in a highlight reel of himself to
Spurrier with a letter of introduction with Rex expressing his interest in UF.

Upon seeing Grossman's highlight reel, Coach Spurrier became very involved
in his recruitment and made Grossman a part of the 1999 recruiting class. Rex
redshirted his first year, but came on in his second year to start seven games
and lead the team to the SEC Championship and a birth in the Sugar Bowl
against Miami.

Last year, Rex became embroiled in a quarterback controversy with Brock Berlin, the former National High School Player of the Year. While all of the hype surrounded Berlin, it was Rex who won the job in the summer and never let it go, leading Florida to a 10-2 record and a 56-23 Orange Bowl win over Maryland.

Now, with the transfer of Brock Berlin to Miami, Rex comes into the season for the first time with no foreseeable competition for his job. He also comes in as the leading Heisman votegetter among players returning to college.
