About Me...
Who is Cheryl Falk?
The Student
I am a photojournalism and an anthropology student at the University of Florida. As of December 15, 2001 I will have graduated with a B.S. in photojournalism and a B.A. in anthropology.
The Photographer
I started taking pictures when I was 14. I got my first camera, a Pentax K1000, at a pawn shop for $50. When I’m taking pictures I get an adrenaline rush. I love taking pictures! I hope that people are impacted in some way when they see my photographs. It could be something as simple as feeling like they are part of the picture or opening their eyes to different kinds of people and situations.
The Activist
Most of my activist work has been in NOW (National Organization for Women) fighting for women’s liberation. I’m a leader in the NOW chapter on my campus, Campus NOW. I have held offices of Fundraising Coordinator, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and I’m currently co-President. I’ve developed my ability to effect political change and make demands on current political structures by organizing events, leading meetings, and bringing speakers.
I have also done work with Amnesty International. I co-founded chapters at Florida Atlantic University and University of Florida, where I organized on women’s rights, freeing political prisoners, and against the death penalty.
The Future
I would like to work as a Photojournalist for a while. I would also like to become a Union Organizer. Eventually, I’ll return to school and pursue my doctorate.
