Travel Well
I lived in Baltimore, Maryland from August 1999 until June 2000. During that 10-month span, I drove back to Gainesville at least 4 times, approximately 1600 miles roundtrip. Here are a few tricks to survive:
- Start early. I would leave Baltimore at 2 or 3 a.m. to avoid the morning rush hour in both Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
- Limit your liquids. This is especially crucial while going through the Carolinas, which have long stretches of...nothing.
- Take sufficient music. My trusty, but old car at the time was a 1991 Honda Civic with only a tape deck (remember this was pre-Ipod). You do not want to be at the mercy of whatever station your radio can pick up.
