Programs to Use
The following free programs are available for both Mac and PC.
- iTunes-this jukebox program has made it ridiculously easy to make playlists for tapes or CDs. Just click on the + button on the bottom right and start adding songs. Also iTunes burns CDs so this is the most essential program for making mix tapes.
- Audacity-This program is great for simple audio editing to either create cross fades or to eliminate annoying hidden songs that can ruin a mix tape or CD.
- MP3Gain and MacMP3Gain-While iTunes has a sound check program that helps make sure all songs are at the same volume, it can be unreliable. It can make songs that slowly fade out far too loud and it can make the entire mix a little too quiet. I like to use MP3Gain instead since it let's you set a target decibel level. I like to set the target volume to around 92db.
