Who the heck is Laura?

Well, I am Laura, and I am many things. I'm a student at the University of Florida. I am also a sister, a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister-in-law, a roommate, a friend, and so much more. Who I am really depends on how you know me...

Right now I'm a senior at the University of Florida and I do a lot of things here. One of the things I do is that I assist in political communications research at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Mass Communications for Dr. Lynda Lee Kaid. I also currently work for the City of Gainesville Department of Parks and Recreation. I am an event planner and public relations consultant for the City Beautification Board that plans and executes programs for the Parks Department.

Above and beyond my work, I am a student. I am majoring in Political Science with a focus on International Relations and a minor in Cultural Anthropology. This takes up most of my time with going to class, studying, writing papers, etc.

When I'm not at school or working either or my two jobs, I like to go horseback riding to relax. Will Rogers once said that nothing is as good for the inside of a person as the outside of a horse. I think he's incredibly right. I think riding, and just being out at the stables around horses is some of the most relaxing time I spend. However, if I don't have the time to make it to the stables I always try to make it to the gym or to go running.

Why is Laura telling me this?

I'm hoping my life might sound somewhat interesting to you so that you will check out the rest of my site. Don't make fun of the fact that it is very simple. My professor made me hand-type every bit of code. Yes, the reason you are here now is because I signed up for electronic publishing also known as MMC3260 and I had to design a web page, and here it is. I have designed a homepage before, but it was about 3 years ago and it really wasn't a serious "design a homepage" project. It was more of a "learn-how-to-very-basically-use-HTML" web page assignment. Since designing this, my second website, I have learned a whole heck of a lot. So, I am glad I took this class. However, this is turning out to be a lot more work that I thought it would be.

Why did you take this class, anyway??

One day I went to this little thing we have at UF called the "Career Fair" and I discovered that if you are like me and try to avoid learning anything about internet communications (i.e. web design) then you could be in very big trouble when you are looking for a job. So, after having about five or six potential employers ask me if I knew any basic web design, I decided I had to do something about my mental deficiency. So, I enrolled in this class, MMC3260, and if nothing else, I got two really great books out of it. The truth is, I am getting more than just two good books out of it. It's a great class, but I highly recommend you do a lot of the "independent" study type work if you take it.

Can I go now?

NO! You cannot leave. I beg you to look around and learn about my interesting life. There is even a picture of a male stripper on this site, I swear it. That and you can read some of the cool essays I wrote and check out my (insert serious voice) very professional resume. Aside from strippers and resumes (ya know, your typical website content), I have some really cool art work in the My Story section that is a nice little pictorial snapshot of my life. So I hope you enjoy looking around and getting to know a little bit about me. If you like my website, it would do a lot for my self-esteem if you could e-mail me and tell me how cool it is. Please, also report any problems or errors you discover on my site.

Thanks for visiting!
