University of Florida Dance Marathon is an event I
got involved in my freshman year of college. Dance Marathon is an annual
32-hour event to benefit the patients of Shands Children's Hospital at UF.
Over 500 student participants stay awake on theirfeet to raise money
and awareness for the Children's Miracle Network. UF's Dance Marathon
is the largest student-run philanthropy in the southeastern United States.
Children who have been helped by the event come to inspire the student
dancers during this exhilarating event. It is hard o stay awake and on
your feet for that amount of time. It is worth it to see exactly
how much you help out. I do not regret the past two years I
have been a dancer for Dance Marathon. I only look forward to helping out
this year.
![]() Last year Pi Beta Phi raised over $9,000. This year our target is to raise
$15,000. Over the past eight years UF has raised over $850,000. All of the
proceeds go directly to the Children's Miracle Network. The funds go to
patient care, patient education and research. This most important thing
of all is that a generous portion goes to continue the search for cures
to common incurable diseases.
