So who is Andy Selepak?

Andy at the ASA Conference My name is Andy Selepak. I was born and raised in Northern Virginia, in the Washington D.C suburbs. I am an only child but I have a very close and tight knit family. In fact, almost my entire family lives within 30 minutes of each other. But I am also finding more and more relatives that I never knew about across the country and world, especially in Northern Ireland.

After graduating from High School, I went to the University of Virginia for a B.A. in American History. I worked in radio for two years after I graduated and then worked for a short time as a real estate agent. After working for two and a half years I decided to go back to school and got my M.A. from George Mason University in Health, Risk, and Crisis Communications.

Right now I am getting a PhD in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida. I am in my second year at UF and I should be done by May of 2011. My research concentration has been in hate speech on the internet. I am working on a number of studies right now and I hope to get a few published in the next few months and attend more conferences so I can meet future colleagues and employers.

After I graduate from UF with my PhD, I hope to become a professor at a university somewhere in a large city. I have spent my whole life living in the suburbs and college towns and I would like to finally try the city life.
