"I need money really bad, Leslie. What should I do? I don't have a lot of free time to have a job because of my classes and don't want a job I dislike."
--Sarah New, 20
Don't worry, Sarah, there are plenty of ridiculously easy jobs out there; jobs you can even do your homework at! Here are my job satisfaction tips:
-
There are telemarketing companies in Gainesville that pay $8 per hour for you to sit in a comfy chair, eat snacks and surf the net while calling people randomly and conducting surveys. That is a very easy job, and you can do your homework there, too.
-
The university has a ton of desk job positions they offer to students every semester. You can work a desk at the dorms, the registrars office, one of the colleges, etc. It only pays minimum wage, but I had one of these jobs-and the job basically paid me to sit at a desk and do my homework for eight hours. Not bad.
-
Pizza delivery is good money, over $80 a night, but it is hard on your car (if you have a car).
-
The one thing I would recommend not to do is to get a job at a restaurant. No one tips in Gainesville. It's a fact. The job is busy (with 50,000 students in town), stressful and taxing that you are tired all the time, have to close on the weekends at 2 a.m. and you will not get home until 3:30 a.m. You have to work the fun weekend nights and game days. It's awful. I work at a restaurant now and would not recommend it.
There are also a few ways to make some quick money in Gainesville if you don't want a job but need money:
-
You can donate plasma--$15 the first donation, $40 the second time.
-
You can sell your used CDs at Spec's Music, Play it Again CDs or Hear Again Music.
-
You could pawn jewelry or stereo equipment at one of the many pawn shops in Gainesville.
