I love to listen to live music and particularly jam music, so I think this page will be serve as a good introduction to someone just "geting into" what jamming is and what bands are legendary for it.
One of the best places to start is The Internet Archive, a website on which concert tapers can upload their recordings. In particular, the Grateful Dead section is encyclopedic and has over 6,000 recordings of the 'Dead.' If you're not sure where to start, you can browse the most-listened to shows, or highest rated shows, or you can browse by year. 1972 - '77 are some real golden years so don't be afraid to just go in there blind, so to speak.
This a video of Phish in their prime, December 1995. The light show is fantastic as is this version of Down With Disease. These guys are great..

If you're into Phish, like me, Phish.net is a great resource for budding phisheads - those who listen to Phish. An amazing site for downloading and/or collecting recordings of concerts, Bt.etree.org lets visitors download shows via bit-torrent. Transmission is my favorite bit-torrent program. One thing you'll notice is most of the shows for download are two-set shows. Also, most of the bands on these Web sites, jam bands, rarely play the same song two shows in a row. They never play the same concert twice.
