Carlos Mata

I started to cultivate my passion for photography right before I came to the US. I was taking photography lessons from one of the most famous photographers in Venezuela, Carlos Mata.I only completed one level because I had to move here. During the class we had to do this particular assignment of photographing the letter of the alphabet that we found in nature. We also processed our own pictures in the dark room.

Photojournalism

Over the summer I took my first photojournalism class. The basics of the class taught to tell a story through the pictures. Photojournalist, unlike photographers, have to capture the moment. They're nor allowed to "make" the pictures. The hardest thing about the class was just that, having you camera ready to take the picture when the right moment presented itself.

Quality of Light

This semester I'm taking another photo class at UF. "Quality of Light." We're supposed to take the pictures in the studio and use light to make the images seem alive. Unlike my previous class, we're in total control of the pictures in this class. For the first two assignments we were supposed to take pictures of subject illuminated with one and two lights respectively. For the next couple assignments we had to do a sound/photo slide show where we explained a concept trhough the way we lit the pictures. The class, even though really interesting is particularly hard. All the pictures from this web page, with the exception of the byline images, are examples of my previous assignments.
