My Activities

Running

run through central park

I started running my freshman year of high school when my mom persuaded me to join the cross country team. I actually became a runner about half way through the season when I fell in love with the challenge. My whole family consists of runners, including our dogs. In February, I am running the Rock and Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon with my mom and sister. A half marathon is 13.3 miles, a distance I've yet to conquer. I run an average of 20 miles a week but am going to need to step it up if I want to cross the finish line alive. I still have some time before I have to begin a vigorous training routine. In the meantime I run 3-5 mile routes on nonconsecutive days with my dog Ari.

"I loved the feeling of freedom in running, the fresh air, the feeling that the only person I'm competing with is me." -Wilma Rudolph

Surfing

I have been surfing for almost ten years now and must say it is one of the best stress relievers out there. This summer I competed and placed third in the Volusia County Interzone 2009 Surf Challenge.

Reading and Writing

I've always been a literate person, hence the major in journalism. I am constantly scanning words and collecting new information, sometimes without even realizing it! I carry a book with me everywhere I go and tend to get caught up in the lives of fictional charachters.

Soccer

Soccer is one of my favorite sports to play and to watch. I played the midfield position in a competitive league for 6 years. Now I am mostly just a spectator but plan to participate in UF intramurals in the spring.

Tennis

I have recently taken up tennis and found that it is a great way to stay active and have fun. Im not all that good, but plan to take lessons as soon as I have some free time.
