English adventures

Windsor Castle
The Queen's home, Windsor Castle.

My first out-of-country experience was an unforgettable one. I was spoiled. Now, I'll always compare any traveling I do to my first trip overseas. I have a feeling nothing will compare.

Our group spent exactly thirteen days in England. Each day was packed with activities related to English literature. We took the train to Canterbury to visit the cathedral. We flitted all over London, from seeing "Othello" at Shakespeare's famed Globe Theatre, to watching the afternoon changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. I was amazed to learn they do this ceremony daily - twice daily in the summertime! Other London highlights included the Tate Modern, St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London, home to the Crown Jewels.

We traveled down to Bath and toured the ancient Roman baths, still steamy and mysterious. We also visited Stratford-upon-Avon and watched a retelling of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

A personal highlight was our trek out to Yorkshire country. The weather was indescribable. The scenery was so quaint with sheep dotting the hilly landscape. We stopped in a small village called Halworth, where cobblestone streets led to old-time bakeries and shops.

I'm ready to head back to England to revisit these places and experience new ones.
