Photography

Images capture moments and expressions that sometimes have no verbal equivalent. I studied photography for three years during high school and am picking it back up this semester. These are some of my shots, from older to more recent. My older work focuses more on subjects, textures and artful technique. Newer shots aim to satisfy requirements for JOU 3601, Introduction to Photojournalism, and are my favorites from the semester.

Protestors stage satirical demonstration outside of the White House in 2006

I took this picture in front of the White House in the summer of 2006, while the war in Iraq was a hot-button issue with many activists. I used my 35mm Canon Rebel GII and enlarged the photo in a color darkroom. This image was scanned using a flat-bed scanner.

Cyannotype print of an advertisement on a bench that says Extinction is Forever

This striking advertisement on a bus stop bench caught my eye for its bold picture in 2006. I chose to transfer the image to a Lith film, which is transparent and can be used to make sun prints. I used the lith film to capture the impression on cyanide-coated heavy-weight paper using a cyanide mixture and exposure to sunlight.

Daytime view of Stonehenge

My mom and I visited Stonehenge in the summer of 2007 and I took this picture using my 35 mm Canon Rebel GII.

Headshot of Matt Graham, a UF student

My most recent, I took this headshot of my friend Matt Graham to satisfy requirements for Introduction to Photojournalism (JOU 3601). I used my Nikon D70s digital SLR.
