Cooking

I love cooking. I'm still not very good at it yet. But at least I'm no longer serving up raw chicken and overcooked everything else. I have a cookbook, The New Making of a Cook by Madeleine Kamman, that is often used as a textbook in culinary schools. Not only does it provide excellent and challenging recipes, it goes into the intricate details of the science behind what you’re cooking, as well as giving best practices and often some history. I also use a site called Rouxbe, a site styled as an online culinary school. It contains in depth videos on every aspect of cooking as well as video recipes to help you get things right. Reading about cooking in a book is one thing. Being able to see each step and the results are another.

Surfing

I got into surfing last year when my friend Charlie took me out to the beach near St. Augustine with a beginners surf board and a few wrinkly dollars in my pocket for shrimp tacos. Since that first glorious morning I’ve been into surfing. And though I don’t get many chances to do it between school and work, I still think about it often. And in its stead I often watch surf movies like Thicker than Water.
