Photojournalism in Berlin

Here I pose in front of one of the last remaining sections of the Berlin Wall in May 2009.

Almost twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, I sat on my tour bike in front of a massive remnant of what had terrorized and polarized the German people for 28 years.

It was beautiful and frightening.

This May, I studied photojournalism for two weeks in Berlin with professor Freeman's study abroad program through the College of Journalism and Communications.

As part of our study abroad trip, we had to create multimedia profiles on unique Berliners in order to provide glimpses into life in Berlin today. Through audio and visual materials, we told the story of 15 lives and how they connect to the city and culture of Berlin. Professor Freeman has published our multimedia projects online - along with some of our freelance photographs - and you can check them out here.

Here is my multimedia project on Sophia Raphaeline, an English bookstore owner in Kreuzberg.

I explored the beautiful city of Berlin, photographing my experiences and the diverse culture. I fell in love with everything that is Berlin. I plan on returning there very soon, and exploring the rest of Germany and beyond.

I come from a family of photographers, so it was only natural that I would fall in love with the art of capturing moments on film. Now that we are full-speed ahead in the digital age, I have been working on my digital photography skills, and I've been lucky to have the oppotunity to take pictures in many different places.

I created a blog for my study abroad trip to Berlin, and have continued it since as a way to post pictures from my other travels. If you would like to check out some of my pictures or read about my Berlin adventures, you can take a look at my travel blog.

Oh, The Places I've Been...

I've been to many different places for all types of occasions, but here are some of my favorite trips:
