Hello,
Welcome to my corner of the internet.
My name is Thomas Green, but most people call me Tom. Some friends even call me Tomas Verde, the Spanish literal translation of my name. I'm a third year journalism major from Coral Gables, Fla. I'm 20 years old and the youngest of three children. I'm also the fourth member of my immediate family to attend the University of Florida.
As I'm sure you can guess, that means I was born and raised a Gator, which was tough to do, growing up in Miami, surrounded by University of Miami Hurricanes fans.
Being the youngest of three boys, I had to learn to not be bothered by the little things, so I've grown to be a very laid back person. I take things as they come, and remain calm when a curveball is thrown my direction. As a result, I've learned that I can work pretty well under pressure.
Not only did I want to attend UF because of my family ties to the school, but I wanted to come here because of the journalism program, which is regarded as one of the best around.
My interest in journalism can be traced back to my sophomore year of high school at MAST Academy in Miami. My sophomore English teacher, who was also the school's newspaper adviser, enjoyed my writing and urged me to join the school paper, The Beacon, the following school year.
I joined, and quickly became enamored with journalism. My senior year in high school, I was the Sports Editor of the paper, and was told I did great things with the section. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my educational career and I learned a lot about journalism, InDesign and Photoshop. As a result, I decided to pursue a degree in journalism, and hope to go into sports journalism after graduation.
That's a little bit about me, and brings me to where I am now: Gainesville, Fla. As it is, I'm just enjoying my time in college with some amazing friends while receiving a great education. I'm just taking this whole experience a day at a time.
While you're here, take a look around and learn some more about who I am and what makes me tick. I hope you enjoy what you see around these parts of the internet.
