Origami
One of the things that I enjoy doing is folding origami. I first began to gain an interest in origami when I was in primary school in Singapore where I read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. From then on, I set out to learn origami. Naturally, the crane was the first piece of origami I learned how to fold. It is also perhaps the most well-known piece of origami in the world.
Here is a short video tutorial I found on how to fold an origami crane:
The following Web site is a comprehensive introduction to origami.
Instructions for the beginning bird base in the video can also be found at this site.

If you find that the crane is too complicated for you, I suggest starting out with
this.
It is a simple star that only requires a single strip of paper. Try it out!
