I love all types of music, but one stands out to me the most-the blues! Specifically pre-war blues. Before BB King and Muddy waters popularized the electric blues there were the Delta blues of the 1920's and 1930's. Usually the music was just a man and a guitar. But, thats really all you need. It's raw, powerfull and truthful.
Below I've provided a link to one of my favorite bues musicians of all time, Son House. The man is a legend. He was born in Mississipi in 1902 and did time at Parchment Farm (Mississippi jail) for killing a man in a scuffle. Oh, did I mention he went on to become a preacher. Well, his own version of what a preacher should be. In his songs he says "I want to be a baptist preacher, so I don't have to work."
One of the most amazing things about Son House is that he was the mentor to Robert Johnson-the greatest blues musician of all times who is listed in Rolling Stone as the fifth greatest guitar player ever. Ever!
