FAMILY

They drive you crazy sometimes. You move out. Move away. But for me, with that distance came a greater understanding of just how wonderful and integral a component of my life my family is. There are always there for me no matter how far away. They share in my joys and tip up my chin when I can't seem to lift my eyes from the ground. Thank you always and with love.

This is my dad, stepmom, brother and I on the front porch of my old house in Pensacola. This is my puppy Henry. This is my mom and my new nephew Tristan.

Enjoy my youtube video of my silly puppy Henry. He is completely a part of the family and never ceases to amuse me.

WORK

"Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy."

-Kahlil Gibran

For the past year I have worked at the Arts and Crafts Center at the Reitz Union on campus. I am a studio assistant and can help people screen print, make buttons, paint pottery, glaze pots, etc. It is the most amazing job.

I missed out on being artistic ever since middle school when you had to choose between art and band. Now I have time to channel my creativity into new fun hobbies. I can paint, glaze, draw, knit, solder, make t-shirts and so, so much more... and it's all work!

HOBBIES

I love vintage scooters. I had one up until this summer when it was stolen out of my front yard. I learned how to fix it and repaired it on many occasions. It wasn't the most practical of vehicles but it was my only one and I loved it so much. Someday I will have another one. But for now it's just me and my bicycle!

My wonderful boyfriend Chris built me an awesome fixed gear bike out of his mom's old Schwinn bicycle. He painted it yellow and we ordered pink and green parts for it. It was really hard getting used to riding it. My legs have gotten so much stronger/sore because you have to learn how to stop with your legs by applying resistance, rather than using brakes.

My beautiful yellow fixed gear.

Also, I love building things. Over the summer we built a chicken coop. The project was a success, however, raccoons ate the chickens that we bought. The first batch was dinner after the raccoons dug underneath it. We combat their efforts by designing a skirt made of chicken wire that went around the bottom. Our second attempt lasted longer, but we were foiled again when the little buggers tore the roof off the coop and had a feast on the second round of chickens. I haven't been brave enough to try again... I feel like I am hosting a backyard buffet.
