This is me! With fuscha hair.

Hello,

My name is Emily. I am a 4th semester Journalism student at the University of Florida. I am learning all about CSS and web design this semester. I think that it is an integral part of a journalist’s repertoire in today's media landscape.

To welcome you to my site, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Gulf Breeze but moved to Colorado when I was very young. I lived there until third grade but then moved back to Florida. As the name "Gulf Breeze" suggests it is a beachy town and my house was only a short ride from the beautiful white sand beaches of Northwest Florida. The sand on our beaches is made in part from quartz crystal. It is soft but doesn't stick to you and it squeaks softly when you scuff your feet in it.

I went to Gulf Breeze High School where, through excellent encouragement from my teachers, I became enamored with the world of journalism. I was the Editor-in-Chief of the Gulf Breeze Blue and Gold, our school newspaper, and also layout editor for our school's literary magazine, Voices in the Breeze. We were an FSPA award winning paper all four years I was in high school. Also, I worked with my friend and copy editor during my junior year to design a newsletter for the Gulf Breeze Ford dealership, which was my first professional design clip.

After high school, I worked for five months on a 128' motor yacht before going to college. I started at the University of West Florida in the spring of 2007. I worked for the school newspaper the Voyager for two semesters doing layout and graphic design. It wasn't until the fall of 2008 that I made the University of Florida my happy new home.

I love to travel, knit, build things, and ride bikes, and much much more. Feel free to explore my website and you'll learn more about me.
