I enjoy playing golf, playing guitar and writing.
I play Ping golf clubs, a Larrivee guitar and do my best to write short stories.
Golf is like my wife; it is my oldest relationship with anything. Like most boys I was introduced to golf by my father. However, it was suggested to him that having a father as a swing coach might not be the best idea. In middle school my father introduced me to a gentleman by the name of Stewart North, father of two-time U.S. Open Champion and Gator alumn Andy North. We would meet every Friday after school for seven years. He served as my de-facto grandfather and mentor for the rest of his life. He taught me the fundamentals of the game and valuable life lessons. I hope to someday do for kids what he did for me using the game of golf.
My love of guitar began when I was at a raucous high school party and my friend Chris McCarty picked up the host's acoustic guitar and began to play. I could not believe how beautiful the instrument sounded. I had to have one. In my Senior year my mother bought me a Yamaha APX cutaway which I still have today. Avid guitarists never sell their first guitar. In 2005 I left my job in investment banking for England and studied guitar and music theory full-time for a year at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London where I earned a diploma. I still play live shows every now and again just for fun. If anything I have learned that music is my personal favorite art form. For me it hits the heart directly. Plus if aliens ever did invade the earth it might be the only feasible way we can communicate with them. Music is what separates us from monkeys. Oh, here I go. I am bloviating.
My top three guitarists of all time are, in order: Wes Montgomery, David Gilmour, and Jimi Hendrix. I encourage anyone afraid of Jazz to check out Wes Montgomery's performances on youtube. Also pick up a copy of Pink Floyd's DVD "Live at Pompeii" at a record store, that is if record stores still exist!
