What Should Be Taken With You
This is a great question. First, wherever you go a map is very helpful. Yes, GPS systems are great, but in the rare event that it ceases to function, a map is a great backup plan. Also, here's a no-brainer: bring along a fully charged cell phone. Next, I would advise you to pack wisely when taking a car trip. Make sure you bring snacks and drinks in the car with you, that way you limit the number of stops you make along the way. You can also bring snacks and drinks into baseball games, believe-it-or-not. Even at Yankee Stadium, they allow you to bring in your own snacks and drinks.
Other Stuff You Might Need
There are several other items which might come in handy. A laptop computer is great if you want to keep up with your email or perhaps purchase event tickets from your hotel room. Traveler's checks and credit cards are also very helpful when traveling abroad. A translation dictionary can also be helpful when visiting a country which speaks a language different from your native tongue.
