My Family
I come from a large family with a diverse range of personalities. Because they play such an important role in who I am, I think they deserve mention!
- My father is Phil Voss. He's a retired Captain from 31 years in the US Navy. He's now a defense contractor in Jacksonville, a regular church-goer, an active Rotarian, and most of all, a big family man. Sometimes I catch myself talking like he does, and it puts me in a good mood.
- My mother is Nancy Voss. She raised five kids (by herself for some periods while my dad was away at sea), and she's a former teacher. She claims to dislike "potty humor" comedy, but she's cracked up at some of the dirtiest jokes on "SNL" or "The Office" when we watch them together
- My oldest sister is Suzanne Kerkezi. She's a speech language pathologist in Atlanta, Ga., where she lives with her husband, Jason, and her two-year-old, Owen (my nephew). We jokingly call her "mom" because she took care of a lot of us as we were growing up, and she's so freaking sensitive. She has another baby on the way, due in March.
- Lucy Bravo is my second oldest sister. After graduating from FSU, Lucy spent some time in the Peace Corps in Turkmenistan, and afterwards she worked for a PR firm in Jacksonville and got married to Phil Bravo, a banker and friend from college. She now works and studies at Jacksonville University, pursuing a career in dentistry. She may have to put that on hold, however; she's expecting a baby as well, her first, also due in March.
- My only brother is Matt Voss. He is a Lieutenant in the US Navy, currently stationed in Oak Harbor, Wa., where he is a pilot. As the middle child, he's the funny one in the family. He's also really freaking athletic; I can't think of a sport he's "bad" at.
- Katie Voss is my next-oldest sister. After graduating from FSU, she moved on to law school at the University of Maryland, where she is studying to be a family attorney. Katie is a female version of my father. That's the best way to describe her.
