About Me
Here are some interesting facts about me:
- I am the youngest of five siblings. My three older sisters and older brother all went to and graduated from Florida State University. As the only Gator in a family of Seminoles, I hear a lot of trash-talk.
- I was born in Newport, R.I., but we moved to Jacksonville, Fla., when I was three years old. I didn't return to New England until sixteen years later, in the summer of 2007. Somehow, the place felt like home.
- My full name is Erik Axel Voss. The name is 100 percent Scandinavian; my paternal grandfather (his name was Axel Voss) was a Danish immigrant. When I was very young, I couldn't pronounce my full name, and I would say "Erik Applesauce," which sounds a lot like my name. Applesauce was also my favorite food at the time, so the nickname stuck in my family for long time.
- When I was in high school, I was really involved in drama and theatre. My senior year, I competed in the State Thespian Festival in Tampa, performing in the "monologues" event. I ended up getting "Critics' Choice" in the category, and I got to perform my monologues at closing ceremonies in front of 3,500 people! It was the highlight of my theatre experience, and somewhat of a closing chapter.
- I am an Eagle Scout and a Blackbelt in karate, but I can't remember how to tie a single knot, and I cower and sob in the face of danger.
- I think Conan O'brien is the funniest man in showbusiness. Before he made it big, he was a writer on "The Simpsons." He wrote the "Monorail" episode, which is my favorite episode.
